Preface

Antonio ("Antonino" is written down on his gravestone) Pasculli is regarded to be the most important oboe virtuoso of the 19th century. Born on 13th October 1842 in Palermo he started his solo career already in 1856, aged 14. In 1860 he became professor for oboe and English horn at the Royal conservatory of Palermo where he taught until 1913 when he retired. In 1877 he was appointed conductor of the wind orchestra of Palermo, which he especially devoted himself to after 1884 when he was forced to give up playing in concerts because of an eye complaint. Pasculli died on 23rd February 1924 in Palermo.
